The Niagara-on-the-Lake Conservancy was formed in 1987 by a group of concerned citizens working to preserve and protect the heritage and quality of the Niagara-on-the-Lake homes and atmosphere. Some of their campaigns have included Serve Our Sick (an effort to save the Niagara-on-the-Lake Hospital), restrictions on the Niagara Gorge Jet Boat Tour service, and input on the development of the Niagara-on-the-Lake Official Town Plan. The Conservancy was also involved in the establishment of a School of Restoration Arts at the historic Willowbank estate in Queenston. A major victory for the group was an Ontario Municipal Board ruling in their favour which prevented a waterfront condominium development that would have blocked the site lines of neighbouring Fort George.en_US
