It was established in order to advise the Executive Council of Ontario about ways to contribute to public awareness and understanding of socioeconomic issues that would have an impact of the people of Southern Ontario. Most of the council was comprised of economists and business people. They dealt with issues such as: the elimination of rent controls, user charges for social services, establishment of a North-American free-trade area and the role of industrial policy and income distribution.en_US
