      The collection consists of two photo albums from Eureka Lodge #20, Prince Hall, Toronto, Ontario. The first album consists of 57 colour photographs of Black Shriners and Masons, some featuring a trip to Puerto Rico, circa 1970. Several loose items are enclosed, including photographs, news clippings, and a certificate. The second album contains 26 colour photographs, and 9 loose photographs, circa 1980. Includes photographs of Arthur Downes, one of Canada’s first Black Canadian Grand Masters and Joe Halstead (Order of Canada). Most of the photographs feature members in the lodge interior.

      An orderly book of the Massachusetts militia at Lanesborough. The entries in the book are dated from May 1811 to 1836. Various other entries are included throughout the book with dates ranging from 1862 to 1868. The Captain of the militia unit is Samuel Northam. Entries include muster rolls, regimental orders, and parades. The entry dated August 12, 1812 concerns division inspections by the Major General and ends with the following “Recent event fully justify impression[?] which has long been entertained that the Militia must be…in the first stages[?] of any war in which the U. States may be engaged. Major General cannot forbear[?] to call in the most earnest manner upon the officers & soldiers of this division to discharge the duties of the honored stations which they hold as… soldiers of the State of Massachusetts & he relies with the utmost confidence…with which the Militia will…obey the commands in resisting the first encroachment of an invading[?] force”.

      The fonds consists mainly of letters from merchant ship captain John F. Kennedy to his wife Marcia Gray, written from 1796 to 1818. Some letters describe the confiscation of his ships, a common occurrence at the time due to the Napoleonic wars, the War of 1812, and the Barbary Wars. One letter is from Kennedy to James Mosher, a banker in Baltimore, dated December 28, 1808. Other print documents include two pages of financial accounts (1833-1835); a one page family register recording births, marriages and deaths; and a manuscript fragment of a poem. The collection also includes 3 photographs. One is a photograph of an unidentified woman (possibly Marcia Gray Kennedy); a photograph of Lucy Hansel MacGrotty Phipps, dated October 8, 1862; and a photograph of a building in Pittsfield, New Hampshire, by American photographer Frank B. Berry (ca. 1890s).

The album contains 125 photographs, mostly featuring members of the Currie family at the cottage, including Miriam, her parents, [sister] Eleanor, her grandfather, and Aunt Lill. There is also a Christmas card featuring a picture of the Currie family, and a brochure for “Swiss Chalet”, a small resort on Mississauga Beach, Niagara-on-the-Lake. W. F. Currie is listed as the proprietor. A photograph of a residence in Niagara Falls is included. It appears to be the Currie family home at 1184 Third Ave. Some photographs feature people other than the Curries, many of whom were likely resort staff or guests.
