      Fonds consists of material acquired by Guy St. Denis while researching a book on Sir Isaac Brock’s portraits. All the material are photocopies. Most of the material is correspondence, with some news clippings, programs, and news releases. Much of the material concerns Captain M.H.T. Mellish, Isaac Brock’s great-great-great nephew. There is correspondence between S.E. Weir (founder of Riverbrink Museum in Queenston) and Captain Mellish concerning a watercolour portrait of Isaac Brock; correspondence between the Royal Trust Company and Captain Mellish concerning the opening of a branch in St. Catharines, a tomahawk owned by Tecumseh in Mellish’s possession, and Mellish’s appearance at the opening of the St. Catharines branch; correspondence between Captain Mellish and the British Museum concerning the identity of the artist who created the portrait of Isaac Brock owned by Captain Mellish; and correspondence between Captain Mellish and James A. Gibson, president of Brock University.

      Four pages of photocopied blueprints of the Henley Bridge on the Queen Elizabeth Way in St. Catharines, Ontario. A note below the title indicates the bridge was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on June 7, 1939. Three of the pages are part of the same blueprint and can be fit together to recreate the complete blueprint. The remaining page is an incomplete blueprint drawn by William Lyon Somerville, Architect, and dated March 24, 1939.

    • Horse Breeders Association of the County of Welland Letters Patent, 1882

      Letters Patent of the Horse Breeders Association of the County of Welland. Consists of four pages attached by a blue paper seal with ribbons in the upper left corner. Founding members include Joseph Garner of Pelham; John Alexander Ramsden of Humberstone; Neville Bentley Colcock of Welland; Menno Simon Beam of Willoughby; and Charles Sherk of Humberstone. It is stated that the Association is for “the purchase, sale, breeding, keeping and travelling of thoroughbred or other horses entire or otherwise” The Association was based in the Town of Welland. Capital stock of the Association was $3000 and there were 150 shares. The document includes the signatures of John Assher, Deputy Registrar; Oliver Mowat, Attorney-General; and John Beverly Robinson, Lieut. General.

      The Horton Family collection includes various items collected by the William and Winifred (Smith) Horton family of St. Catharines, Ont. Items were donated to Brock University Archives in 2006, with further accruals at a later date.
    • Howard Engel fonds, 1905-2019, n.d.

      Cameron, Chantal (2022-07-13)
      Fonds consists of material acquired by mystery writer Howard Engel. Most of the fonds consists of books written by Engel, including various editions and languages. Some of the books are signed by Engel and dedicated to members of his family. Most of the books are from Engel’s Benny Cooperman series of detective novels. All 13 books from the series are in the fonds, published between 1980 and 2012, and include The Suicide Murders; The Ransom Game; Murder on Location; Murder Sees the Light; A City Called July; A Victim Must Be Found; Dead and Buried; There Was an Old Woman; Getting Away with Murder; The Cooperman Variations; Memory Book; East of Suez; and The Whole Megillah. Several anthologies that contain Engel’s work are included. Two sketchbooks belonging to Engel are also included, as well as numerous images of Niagara Falls by the Carborundum Company from 1915 to 1927.

The book has inscribed on the front in gold letters “The Humberstone Shoe Company Limited Minute Book”. The book also has a taped on typed label “The Humberstone Shoe Co. Ltd. Director’s Minutes”. Book has metal binding. Was made by the McMillan Book Co. of Syracuse, NY.
