      Cameron, Chantal (2021-11-30)
      Most of the fonds consists of correspondence written to George Crawford, a Pennsylvania State Legislator. The bulk of these letters were written to him while he was serving as a Pennsylvania State Legislator from 1831 to 1834. Other materials include rolls for labourers working on the Pennsylvania Canal, legal documents, accounts, printed material, receipts, and newspapers. Correspondence, 1817-1868, n.d. Contains 268 letters. Many of the letters are from constituents, fellow legislators, judges, and lawyers who were looking for Crawford’s support on their bills, need for a charter, petitions, remonstrances, or inquiries. An interesting letter to George Crawford from his son R.A. Crawford in 1857 provides a detailed description of his trip to Niagara Falls, including sightseeing excursions to Goat Island, the suspension bridge, Barnett’s Museum, and Lundy’s Lane.

      Fonds consists of a record book entitled the Methodist Ritual and Pastor's Pocket record, by Rev. George H. Cornish, 1899, and a memorial album containing more than 100 cartes de visite. The record book contains George Cornish's notes concerning mileage and professional activities from 1910-1912. Also included are several newspaper clippings of marriages at which George Cornish officiated.
    • George Henry Seymour fonds, 1855-1860

      Fonds consists of a travel journal kept by Vice-Admiral George Henry Seymour when he accompanied Edward VII, Prince of Wales (later King of England) for a tour of the Province of Canada, including a visit to Niagara Falls. The journey begins from Plymouth Sound, with subsequent entries at Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa, Kingston, Belleville, Toronto, Niagara, Halifax, and Portland. Highlights of the tour include encounters with Governors Sir Alexander Bannerman (Newfoundland) and George Dundas (Prince Edward Island), the Governor General [Sir Edmund Walker Head], Sir George Simpson (Governor-in-Chief of the Hudson’s Bay Company), Charles Blondin,(tightrope walker), and First Nations tribes. Also contains two letters written by Seymour to his family during the tour, and copies of a letter inquiring about an incident in which a vessel had hit ground at the entrance to the Saguenay River. Also included are two certificates of appointment to Seymour from the Admiralty relating to HMS Hero and a large map showing the British Provinces of North America in 1860.

      This collection contains promotional material for limited edition prints by George Upper. There are 16 flyers featuring different pieces of artwork. The artwork includes various scenes from Port Dalhousie, including the Henley Regatta, Lakeside Park, Haultain House and Chan’s Laundry. Also included is a flyer advertising a print of the Martindale trestle bridge and the old sign of the Russell House hotel at St. Paul and James Street in downtown St. Catharines, 1995.

    • Grant of Permission for lease of military lands from Sir Robert Prescott to Thomas Clark, 1798-1801.

      Cameron, Chantal (2012-05-04)
      A Grant of Permission from Sir Robert Prescott, Governor-in-Chief of both Upper and Lower Canada and Commander of the Forces, for a lease of land granted to Thomas Clark of Queenston. It grants the lease of a lot of military crown lands on the river at Queenston, to Thomas Clark, to occupy and to build there structures consisting of wood only and not brick or stone, subject to reasonable compensation if the said lands were required to be repossessed for military purposes by the government (14 years before the War of 1812). The document was signed by Prescott on July 9, 1798 in Quebec city, by Thomas Clark on August 16, 1798, and amended by J. M’Donell Lt. Col. on October 13, 1801.
