| dc.description | The Friends of the Loyalist Collection at Brock University was formed in 2002 by Edward Scoot, Beverly and Rodney Craig, William Smy, and Noreen Stapley. Their goal was to establish a collection of primary and secondary source material dealing with the United Empire Loyalists that would be kept in Archives & Special Collections at Brock University. Funding was initially provided with a donation from the Lincoln and Welland Foundation. Proceeds from William Smy’s book An Annotated Nominal Roll of Butler’s Rangers with Documentary Sources also provided funding for the group, as well as donations from the United Empire Loyalist Association of Canada and private donors. With these funds, the group was able to acquire more than 500 microfilm copies of UEL related material from archives across Canada, the United States, and England. They also funded the digitization of the Woodruff Family fonds in the Brock University Archives, as well as the funds for acquisition of original records relating to the Bradt and Field families. Their work has resulted in Brock University being one of the key repositories for Loyalist resources in Canada. | en_US |
