Sir Allan Napier MacNab (1798-1862) was a Canadian soldier and politician. He served during the War of 1812 and Rebellion of 1837-1838 in Upper Canada. During the rebellion, MacNab commanded the forces on the Niagara frontier and ordered an attack on the American ship the Caroline, which was providing supplies to William Lyon Mackenzie and the rebels on Navy island. An American was killed in the attack and MacNab was indicted for murder in Erie County, N.Y. He was removed from his command in Niagara but received a knighthood in March of 1838 for his work during the rebellion. His political career spanned from 1830 to 1862 as a representative for Hamilton in Parliament. He also served as joint premier of the province from 1854 to 1856. He lived in Dundurn Castle in Hamilton, which remains today and is open to the public.en_US
A Judgement Roll and Assignment of Judgement dealing with a dispute between Sir Allan Napier MacNab, and George Truscott and John Cleveland Green. The Judgement Roll concerns a debt owed to MacNab and a charge against the defendants of absconding or concealed debts. It is 4 ½ pages and is dated October 14, 1847. It is attached to an Assignment of Judgement between Sir Allan McNab and Lucius Long, which is dated November 2, 1847. The Assignment of Judgement is related to the case between McNab and Truscott and Green. It appears that McNab was awarded 523 pounds, 1 shilling and 4 pence, which was then transferred to Lucius Long. The Assignment of Judgement is 3 pages and is signed by Allan N. MacNab and Wm. H. Boulton, Mayor of Toronto. A seal of the City of Toronto is included on the last page.en_US
