Travel Photo Album and Scrapbook, 1929-1934 RG 709
One photo album and one scrapbook containing photographs, postcards, and
travel manuscripts of a Massachusetts woman and her friends as they
travelled to Ontario, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut,
Pennsylvania, and Illinois from 1929 to 1934. The photo album and

Travel Scrapbook, 1933-341933-34The scrapbook contains postcards, typed and handwritten manuscripts, souvenir booklets, and photographs from trips taken in 1933 and 1934. The album begins with a trip to the Chicago World’s Fair in 1933 which included a stop in Niagara. There are three postcards of Niagara Falls and the stop is mentioned in the manuscript, stating that “MH was thrilled with Niagara, for that matter we all found as much interest. We still have the trip behind that intriguing Falls’ shower curtains to look forward to…”. They also stopped briefly in Shedden, Ontario, before arriving in Chicago. Several pages of the scrapbook contain postcards and descriptions of Chicago and the exhibits at the Fair. The next section of the scrapbook documents a road trip to Washington, D.C. with fellow teachers. The trip included stops in New York City, Mt. Vernon, and Fort Hoyle, Maryland. A typewritten account of the trip is 17 pages and includes photographs, postcards, souvenir booklets, and a four-leaf clover. Some stops on their trip included Arlington National Cemetery, the Washington Cathedral, and the Caves of Luray, Virginia. At the end of the album are photos of three women and the car they travelled in. It is written that “We had one jolly time—but Homes and Husbands and Whatnot look pretty darn good to us after a week’s absence...”.
Photo travel album, 1929-19301929-1930The photo album is dated 1929-1930 and contains 51 photographs and 16 postcards. The album documents a road trip to Rochester, NY, Niagara Falls, Ontario, and Maine, where she visits Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. The first 6 pages of the album contain 23 photographs and postcards of Niagara, including the Suspension Bridge; Brock’s Monument; the Niagara Glen Station; the Spanish Aero Car; Table Rock House; Niagara Falls from Queen Victoria Park; the Laura Secord Monument; the War Memorial in Queen Victoria Park; views of the Falls View Bridge and Niagara Falls; the Niagara River rapids; the Refectory in Queen Victoria Park; Niagara Falls illuminated at night; and Niagara Falls in winter. The rest of the album contains photographs, postcards and written accounts of the stops at Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, the Taconic Trail, airplanes flying in formation at Prospect Hill Fire Tower in Waltham, visits to cadets at West Point, NY, and Rochester NY. Also contains two letters to “Mum” about her travels. One letter is dated 1932 and the other has no date.
