This document is a lease for land beginning on the south eastern bank of the Grand River. The document is signed by Joseph Brant. The wax seal is cracked, but still intact, Oct. 1, 1801. A transcription is included.

The letter mentions that Miss Nelles will be in Bowmanville at the time of her next letter. Drope mentions that they are soon to be married and that his only concern is that he cannot provide the same life style she is used to, "I cannot give you as comfortable a home as you have been accustomed to, and this is the only cause of regret that I have in marrying you".
