| dc.description.abstract | A letter written by Sir John A. Macdonald to Senator McCallum 13 July 1882 reads: "I ought to have written you before now congratulating you on your victory in Monck. I was delighted to see you win, notwithstanding what you said to me last session. I was sure the old iron horse "Stromness" would not fail me at the last...I wish you could have split yourself in two and run for Haldimand as well. However we can't have everything we want in this world and I ought to be satisfied. Altho I have to regret the loss of some very staunch friends. | en_US |
