dc.descriptionHeward Carl and Oswald Boase were brothers-in-law. Oswald Boase was married to Julia Louise Carl, sister of Heward Carl. Both men served in World War I. Heward John Carl (1885-1918) was the son of John and Eliza Carl of St. Catharines, Ontario. He enlisted with the army in February 1916 and served with the Canadian Field Artillery, 23rd Howitzer Battery. He was killed in action on September 10, 1918 and is buried in the Terlincthun British Cemetery in Pas de Calais, France. He was awarded the Military Medal, announced in the Supplement to the London Gazette, dated 24 January 1919. Oswald Boase (1895-1966) was from St. Catharines, Ontario. He enlisted with the army in 1915 and served as a gunner with the 31st Battery, 8th Brigade.en_US
