The Wright family lived in a distinguished home at the corner of Duke and James Streets in St. Catharines. The home was originally built by Henry Mittleberger in 1841-1842. It was later bought by E.E.H. [Edward Edwin Hugh] Wright, secretary-treasurer of the Welland Vale Company. Edward married Alma Chaplin in 1915. Their daughter Harriet Briar was born in September 1924. After Wright’s death, the family house was vacant. The city eventually purchased the property and the house was demolished in 1971. A courthouse was built in its place, which opened in 1981.en_US
A photo album belonging to the Wright family of St. Catharines, ca. 1925- 1945. Most of the photographs are of daughter Briar (Bri) and her friends. Many pictures were taken at an Algonquin summer school for girls, Camp Tanamakoon (1937, 1938), and the Toronto Rosedale school for girls, Branksome Hall (1937-1940). Other photographs include Briar’s parents and the family home in St. Catharines, as well as photographs of Briar as an infant with Bud (possibly her brother). The last part of the album features the spring and summer of 1941, with some pictures of young men in uniform. The album contains 348 photographs (282 named photographs).en_US
